James Light Corbett was born on October 18, 1931, in Dandridge, Tennessee, to Roy Franklin and Anna Beulah (Layman) Corbett. He was raised on the family farm, the eldest of one brother and two sisters. He was educated in Dandridge and graduated from Jefferson County High School. Upon graduation, Jim attended a seminary school in Kentucky.
While pursuing his training, he met a beautiful young lady by the name of Marion Joyce Taylor. The two immediately became smitten with one another and were married on June 3, 1957, in Oklahoma City. While still a student and newlyweds, Jim sold Bibles door to door until he graduated with a Master of Divinity in 1958.
Jim and Marion pastored a church in Owensboro, Kentucky, for more than five years. There, they welcomed the birth of their daughter, Karen. Jim accepted calls at other churches in Oklahoma, Kansas, and Iowa. Eventually, he began working for the State of Iowa, Department of Elder Affairs. Jim retired after a 26-year career. He moved and settled in Tulsa to be near family.
Kind, loving, and generous are words used to describe Jim. He was a prayer warrior and loved knowing how he could pray for you, constantly updating his prayer list. He loved the Lord and enjoyed studying the words in the hymnal.
Jim passed away on April 25, 2020. He was 88. Those he leaves to cherish his memory are his beloved Marion Corbett; son, Steve Corbett; son-in-law, Kenneth Williamson; granddaughter, Lindsey Thompson, and husband, Alan; grandson, Jared Williamson; brother, Roy Corbett; sister, Ann Underwood, and husband, Tom.
