“Jack Richard Watson, former Baptist and Pentecostal preacher, went peacefully to be with his Lord on October 25, 2021. Only 74 years old and suffering from liver cancer, Jack would often quip: “It’s not my age that matters; it’s the mileage!”
And mileage he had! Jack joined the Navy at the age of 16 and soon was a revered barber in the ship’s barber shop. He wasn’t a big guy, so he made friends with big guys by cutting their hair any way they wanted, regulation or not! After the Navy, he married and had a son, Jeffrey.
After graduating from Oklahoma Baptist University, Jack spent most of his life moving around the U.S. to seed churches and preach the Gospel. Preaching the Gospel wasn’t difficult for Jack, who also had a beautiful classically trained tenor singing voice that according to some could “bring the Glory down!” In his day, he graced audiences and congregations with the likes of “The Preachers Three,” Larry Gatlin, and others. His most memorable evangelical labor was when he had the honor of moving to post-Soviet Russia with Living Stream Ministry to preach the Gospel, seed churches, and pass out bibles. As Jack said “It was a glorious time.” Never before had he felt the Lord’s grace so intensely than in that country.
After this ministry, Jack returned to the States and continued his sojourn and spent time in Texas, Louisiana, Tennessee, and Oklahoma, where he passed away.
He is survived by his son, Jeffrey, two grandchildren, Eli and Emma, two sisters, Louise and Carolyn, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at Bixby South-Tulsa Funeral Service on November 6, 2021 at 2pm. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Bibles for America, a ministry near to Jack’s heart. ()”
