Henry was born November 5, 1932 in Eureka, Kansas, the son of Henry Albert and Ellen Christine (Anderson) Olson. He graduated from high school in Eureka, and later attended college in Emporia, Kansas. Henry met Barbara through mutual friends. They would make Broken Arrow their home in 1953.

This provided a steady income for his family during several layoffs in the aviation industry. Henry was a man dedicated to his family. He enjoyed taking them to Ft. Gibson Lake where they made many memories fishing from the dock at their lake home.
