A visitation to honor Ronald Gene Reed will be 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, May 13, 2020, at Bixby Funeral Service. Private family services are planned. Gene passed away on Friday, May 8, 2020, in Bixby. He was 81.
Born March 19, 1939, in Augusta, Kansas, Gene was the son of Arthur Earl Reed and Mary Isabell (Watkins). He was raised in both Kansas and Texas, returning to Kansas, where he worked hard on area farmland and where he completed his high school education. Following graduation, he entered the United States Air Force. Throughout his time in the service, he would be stationed in San Antonio, Texas, and Omaha, Nebraska. Upon his honorable discharge, Gene always maintained the status of that of a proud veteran.
Throughout the years, Gene worked various jobs, including selling insurance. Eventually, he found his way to Bixby, Oklahoma, where his niche was serving as the local Wal-Mart greeter. This job brought Gene much joy as he met numerous people and brought smiles to many faces.
Described as: quiet, stubborn, and simple, Gene was a man who liked to have things his way. At the same time, he was welcoming, of all, and maintained close relationships with those he considered his friends.
In recent years, Gene enjoyed finding golf balls at the Links apartment complex and sitting outside, visiting with neighbors, and whittling wood. A man of faith, Gene belonged to the Bixby Free Will Baptist Church and was awaiting his call Home.
Gene will be missed by those who knew and loved him. He is survived by his siblings: sister, Dorothy Holt; sister, Pauline Meredith, brother, Richard “Dick” Reed; brother, Wayne Weaver; sister, Mary Ellen Burdett; sister, Waynette Sue Weaver; children: daughter, Shelly Morris; daughter, Becky Reed; son, Ronald Reed; son, Russell Reed; daughter, Renee Reed, and daughter, Lisa Tyre; granddaughter, Alyssa Ture along with numerous other grandchildren, great-grandchildren, other relatives, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents: father, Arthur Earl Reed, mother, Mary Isabell Schumann, and brother, Jimmie Weaver.
