Faith Bond Obituary

Faith Linda Bond, 74, of Tulsa, Oklahoma, passed from this life on January 15, 2024. She was born March 14, 1949, in Brooklyn, New York to Anna Marie (Dodd) Brockstedt and Harry Brockstedt, a New York City Police Officer. She was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Anna Marie, and an infant sister, June Ann. She is survived by her brother, Charles Brockstedt of Lakeland, Florida, and her sister Barbara Brockstedt of Homosassa, Florida.

Survivors include her current husband of twenty-nine years, James Wesley Bond; children, Michael and Averlorne Joyner, of Charlotte, North Carolina, and Sam Joyner of Dallas, Texas; grandchildren, Aaron Joyner, Anastasia Joyner, Andrew Joyner, Ester Joyner, Shaine Jones, Nathaniel Nosal, Jacqueline Joyner, and Samuel Joyner. Her step-family includes children Michelle Bond and her former spouse, Michael Tedford, and Melanie Shiew and her partner Greg Collins; grandchildren, Christine Tedford, Emily Mora and her husband Mitchell Mora, Jet Tedford, Meagan Shiew, AJ Shiew, Erika Tedford, Ryan Shiew, Natalie Tedford, and Sophia Tedford.

Faith grew up in Staten Island, New York. One of her fondest memories of New York includes taking the train from Staten Island to New York City to Macy's Department Store. This was an annual event to purchase Easter outfits and yes, Easter bonnets. At the age of 11, her family moved to Lakeland, Florida after the death of her father. Faith graduated from Lakeland High School in 1967.

Faith and her sons, Michael and Sam, later moved to the Tulsa area. As a single mother, she enthusiastically supported both boys as they played football at Jenks High School. After Michael and Sam graduated from high school and left home, they suggested she find an activity she enjoyed. Thus began her many years of cycling with the Tulsa Bicycle Club. For several years she participated in the Oklahoma Freewheel event. This was a week-long bike ride that began somewhere in southern Oklahoma with overnight camping along the way and ended up at various locations in southern Kansas.

Faith attended court reporting school at Brown Mackie College and worked for attorneys in Tulsa. Her final employer was Grace Church where she worked as an administrative assistant. At Grace Church, she also served in the counseling department and on the hospital visitation team. Faith attended Rhema Bible Training Center for two years and graduated in 2009. She has taught women's discipleship classes at the church as well as Bible studies in her home. She has been on group mission trips to Nigeria and twice to Paris, France.

Grandchildren became a big part of Faith's life in her later years. She'd have them over and enjoy various activities with them. They would have mac and cheese with grilled franks for most meals. At Christmas time there was the "grandchildren's tree" that they decorated together. When some of them were younger, they would ride behind her in a bicycle trailer. She made a special effort to travel and visit her out-of-town children and grandchildren in North Carolina and Texas, staying several weeks in the summer.

Faith married James in the second half of her life. Their children might say it was one of the best things that ever happened to either of them. Together, Faith and James enjoyed attending Grace Church, rodeos, square dancing, activities with the Tulsa Model A Car Club and family events. They celebrated anniversaries with trips and excursions to places throughout Oklahoma, Missouri, and Arkansas. In the end, it was James that Faith waited to say goodbye to before she left this earth.
