Duane Collins passed away unexpectedly July 20th, 2021 in Tulsa at the age of 82. Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to Bixby-South Tulsa Funeral Service and Crematory.
Duane was born November 9, 1938 in Afton, Oklahoma. He was the son of Lewis and Juanita (Helms) Collins and grew up on the three family farms in Ottawa county, which belonged to the Helms and Collins families. Many stories have been told about Duane riding his pony to school during the happy days of outhouses and gas lanterns. Duane moved to the Tulsa area where he graduated from Webster High School. He also studied Law at the University of Tulsa.
Duane met his wife Peggy while working at American Airlines. The couple married on July 13, 1982 in Las Vegas. Duane completed a 38-year career with American, starting out in the mail room, and retiring as a purchasing manager in 1993. During retirement, Duane devoted his life to his ministry, “The Common Man.”
According to Duane, I am just an ordinary person whom God has called to help "Prepare the way of the Lord” through the writing of Gospel Music, books, and Christian commentaries on current news events……all of which is inspired by God’s word.
I love the message God gave to Habakkuk more than 2,600 years ago. “Write down the vision; write it clearly on clay tablets so whoever reads it can run to tell others.” Habakkuk 2:2
Duane loved music and it remained a big part of his ministry through the years. He was an excellent pianist and upon dedicating himself to the Lord, Duane became an integral part of the Tulsa gospel music scene.
Surviving family members include his wife, Peggy; two sons, Rick Collins and wife, Karla, and Doug Collins and wife, Tammy; and numerous beloved grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Duane was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Jim Collins, sister-in-law, Ramona Collins, and his grandson, Bryan Collins.
