She was 92.

Born August 4, 1928 in Topeka, KS, Doris was the daughter, and only child, of Norman E. and Esther (Salvason) Horn. Raised in her birth community, Doris attended Topeka Schools and became a graduate of Topeka High School.

Married to Kenneth V. Brooks, to this union three sons were welcomed through the years: Michael, Stephen, and Mark. Doris would help to support the family as she worked for Union Central Life Insurance Company. Quite the accomplishment, she was able to take shorthand up to 200 words per minute!

Having her hands full at home raising her boys, Doris is remembered, by her sons, as an excellent cook. They also remember her devotion to gardening and canning and helping out with that daunting task!

Upon the untimely passing of her first husband, Doris would marry Norman Fisher. He too would pass away and eventually Doris found love again when she met and later married Lee Oliver.

During the winter, it was not uncommon for Doris and Lee to head south, for Texas, in their RV. Although Doris didn’t dance, she dressed up in her western digs and supported Lee as he performed in Western Swing events.

Devoted to her faith, Doris was faithful to her church and to her relationship with the Lord. She and Lee attended Beams of Light Church in Tulsa.

Doris passed from this life on Wednesday, January 13, 2021. She was 92.

Survived by: her sons: Michael Brooks of Fort Worth, Texas, Stephen Brooks of Topeka, Kansas, and Mark Brooks of Tulsa, she is also survived by: four grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren.

Doris was preceded in death by: her parents; her husbands: Kenneth Brooks, Norman Fisher, and Lee Oliver, as well as, a grandson, Bradley Brooks.
