On September 5, 1963, Dennis Ray Pogue was born to Don and Barbara (Coffrin) Pogue in Wilburton, Oklahoma. He was the baby of four and learned a lot of what NOT to do from his older siblings. The Pogue family would move from Wilburton to Okmulgee and then to the Tulsa area where Dennis attended Tulsa’s Cooper Elementary school. Additional moves would have Dennis attend both Claremore and Owasso schools. He would graduate from Owasso in 1980. Throughout school, Dennis wrestled and played baseball. He also had a thing for cars and trucks and was proud of his blue Chevelle.
Following high school, Dennis began working in the heat and air business. It was while fixing some equipment at Yale Cleaners that he met Staci Neumeyer who was pressing a pair of pants. There was an obvious mutual interest that eventually led to a wedding ceremony. The couple said, “I do” in Eureka Springs, Arkansas on February 26, 1993. The couple made their first home together in Tulsa.
Through the years, Dennis and Staci would grow their family with the birth of daughters: Samantha and Teri. When it was time for baby #2, Sam sure wanted a baby brother. After she was convinced that there was no sending Teri back, she decided to love her anyway. Love is something Dennis demonstrated to his girls too! Anyone who knew this little family would definitely label those two as “Daddy’s girls”!
In fact, he even took the girls hunting with him. Sam and Dennis created a bond through their love of hunting. A favorite place was their cabin in Cleveland but when the roads got too bad, they found a perfect piece of land in Checotah. There, they built a blind so nice it included a heater. Although, Teri chose to sit out on these trips, she and Dennis were equally close. Dennis was Teri’s biggest fan. He never missed the chance to cheer her on at softball games and tournaments.
Described as: loving, caring, strong, and devoted, Dennis worked hard to provide for his family. He worked for ACE Air for many years and then found employment with American Airlines beginning in 1998.
Whenever he could, Dennis enjoyed watching OU Football and was tuned in nightly to watch his game shows.
Dennis passed away, unexpectedly, on Sunday, November 29, 2020. He was 57.
He is survived by: his loving wife of 27 years, Staci Pogue; his daughters: Samantha Batista and husband, Erick and daughter, Teri Pogue; grandson, Levi; siblings: Jeri Kay Lux, Steve Pogue, Tim Pogue, and Donna Hicks; mother-in-law, Naedean Neumeyer; sisters-in-law, Traci Foster and Gina Walden; brothers-in-law, Gary Neumeyer and Steve Neumeyer; along with a host of other relatives and many friends.
