David Oliver Obituary

Oliver, David Kent “GUB”, 61, retired certified automotive parts manager, died Thursday, June 11, 2020 in Tulsa. Private family services are being planned. Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to Bixby Funeral Service, Bixby.

Born October 30, 1958 in Muskogee, Oklahoma, David Kent Oliver was the first of four children born to Robert Terrell Oliver and Guyla Gail (Conley). Raised in Muskogee and Waldron, Arkansas, David had a love for the outdoors from an early age. Always up for an adventure, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping. He and his siblings were certainly known to ride bikes, swim, build tree houses and listen to Rock ‘n’ Roll.

As a boy, David enjoyed visiting his Grandfather Conley’s furniture store in Muskogee. There, he was tasked with washing the large store front windows. This was not without reward, however, as he was sure to earn an allowance. Also, in his youth, David attended Calvary Baptist Church in Muskogee where he was saved and baptized. Throughout his lifetime, he continued to be a man of faith and was not shy to talk about his love of the Lord.

It would be a little later than normal that David attained his GED. He did this at the same time as his maternal grandmother, lrma Conley. This was a special gift the two shared. David would continue to receive an education and training as he became a Certified Automotive Parts Manager. He would find employment at Eldorado Motors for more than 20 years. He then worked for NAPA, O’Reilly’s, and United Engines before retiring.

In his spare time, David would generally make a return to the outdoors. It seemed he had every available trinket a survivalist would need. Quite possibly his greatest love was that of his family as he proudly wore the title “GUB” which stood for Great Uncle Bubba. David loved to hang out with his nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. In fact, he has been described as a big kid at heart.

Other words that describe David include stubborn, hard-headed, fun-loving, and adventurous. He always said he was going to go into Heaven sliding sideways claiming it was a hell of a ride.

Those closest to David will likely go on a camping trip in his honor or watch a scary movie and participate a little more in this year’s Halloween festivities. They may even pay tribute to him by listening to Pink Floyd, Kiss, or Ozzy.

There is no doubt that David or GUB will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved him. Those surviving family members include: his sisters: Nancy Gail (Oliver) Adams of Bixby and Guyla Jill Owen and husband, Kent of Ft. Gibson; his nephews and niece: John Leak and wife, Tracy of Broken Arrow, Adam Leak and wife, Rachel of Bixby, Ben Owen and wife, Robin of Muskogee, Kendall Owen and wife, Kimber of Edmond and Kealey Oliver of Bixby; great-nephews and great-nieces: Kale Owen, Cooper Leak, Wade Owen, Mack Leak, Emma Owen and Harley Owen.

He was preceded in death by: his parents: mother, Guyla Miller and husband, Jim; father, Robert Oliver and wife, Katie; brother, Steven Oliver and nephew, Conley Oliver.
