Charlie Brown

November 10, 1935 ~ August 6, 2023 (age 87) 87 Years Old


A service honoring Charlie Brown will be held at 12:00 pm on Thursday, August 10, 2023 at Concharty Church. A wake is being held Wednesday, August 9, 2023 at 7:00 pm. Charlie Brown passed away on Sunday, August 6, 2023 in Tulsa, Oklahoma at the age of 87.

He was born on November 10, 1935 in Bristow, Oklahoma to Cacan con thla (Ted) Brown and Nellie Staley Frank. He graduated from Liberty, in Liberty Mounds,Oklahoma. He joined the U.S. Army in 1958 and served for two years.

On October 24, 1964 Charlie married Phyllis Ann Coffey in Tulsa, Oklahoma at Carbondale Bible Church.

For a short time, Charlie drove a truck. He is best known for his work as barber. He became a barber at the encouragement of his father-in-law, Orville Coffey. He was told that he wouldn't make a lot of money, but he would always have money. He then went to barber school, and worked in the Tulsa area and at Eastgate Barbershop for many years. Charlie retired after working 45 years as a barber.

Charlie loved living in the country. It was his home. He enjoyed sitting outside listening to and watching for animals. He enjoyed reading and could always be found with a newspaper, magazine or an informational book in his hands. He loved learning new things. Charlie also enjoyed his daily cup of coffee and an occasional blueberry donut.

Around the age of 10 or 12, Charlie became a member of Duck Creek Ceremonial Grounds. He was one of the last Full Blooded Yuchi elders, which is what he wanted people to remember him. He loved spending time at Duck Creek during the dancing season. He also loved to fellowship at Concharty church during Wild Onion Dinners. He loved spending quality time with his family.

Charlie is preceded in death by his parents, his two brothers and three sisters: Felix Brown, Sr., Eugene Brown, Frances Ryan, Ina Gibson and Jane Tiger.

He is survived by his daughter, Vanessa Brown and many nieces and nephews.

His final resting place will be at Bixby Cemetery in Bixby, Oklahoma.
