Carroll James Plohocky passed away Monday, September 25, 2023 at his Tulsa residence. He was 88 years old. Carroll will be laid to rest in the Evergreen Cemetery in Alpena, Michigan.
Born January 1, 1935 in Bessemer, Michigan, Carroll was the son of John and Antoinette (Bielecki) Plohocky. He grew up in Ironwood - alongside four brothers and two sisters. Carroll was a tremendous athlete. He played football and held the state record for low hurdles on the track team. Carroll graduated from Ironwood High School in 1952.
Carroll served honorably in the United States Marine Corps. He achieved the rank of Sergeant. Following his military service, Carroll atended college at Milwaukee Tech for Metallurgy Sciences.
Carroll pursued a tenured career as a supervisor for Nordberg Manufacturing in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He traveled extensively overseas and spent quite a bit of time in Papua New Guinea. The company manufactured and installed industrial presses worldwide.
Carroll would meet Monica in St. Louis while both of their spouses underwent bone marrow transplants for Leukeumia. Carroll's first wife, Sondra preceded him in death March 16, 1984. He married Monica August 9, 1985 in Farmington, Missouri. The couple just celebrated 38 years of marriage together.
Wood carving became a favorite hobby for Carroll. He made all types of nautical themed art work, as well as furniture from ship-wrecked wood.
Surviving family include his wife, Monica Plohocky; his children: Carol Potts, Paul Plohocky, Tim Plohocky, Nathan Plohocky, Nathaniel Downs, Simon Plohocky, and Phillip Plohocky; two brothers, Walt and Dennis Plohocky; 15 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and 2 on-the-way.
Carroll was also preceded in death by his son, Daniel Plohocky; two brothers, and two sisters.
