Carolyn Ann (Calhoun) Sullivan Spillers, age 70, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, August 17, 2023 after a lengthy battle with dementia. Carolyn was born one of six children to Sherwood and Lillian Calhoun in Monroe, Louisiana on December 31, 1952.
One of the most memorable things about Carolyn was her smile. It was a rare day that one didn't appear on her face. She was so carefree, wasn't one to worry and always had a positive outlook on life. She was someone that you could count on anytime when you needed to talk and was willing to help anyone in need. Many times she cared for others when they weren't well and never complained about it.
She had good times working different jobs such as at a donut shop and even a cash advance loan office during her early adulthood. However, she became a loyal employee of State Farm and retired from there after 29 years.
Louisiana was home, although Carolyn spent most of her later years in Oklahoma. Her fearless spirit of adventure allowed her to relocate several times while working for State Farm. Voluntary transfers led her from Louisiana to Oklahoma, to Alabama, back to Louisiana, to Colorado, and she finally settled in Oklahoma upon retirement to be with her sons and family.
Carolyn was preceded in death by her father Sherwood Calhoun, mother Lillian Calhoun, brother Jerry Wayne Calhoun, brother-in-law Charles Watson, nephew Jody Scott, niece Trisha Brodnax, nephew Josh Calhoun and nephew Jeremy Calhoun.
She is survived by her son John "Jake" Spillers, son Michael "Paul" Sullivan and daughter-in-law Shanda Sullivan, granddaughters Makayla Sullivan and Marissa Sullivan, sister Mary Jane Watson, sister Docie Williams and brother-in-law Fred Williams, brother Don Calhoun and sister-in-law Carolyn Calhoun, brother Roger Calhoun and sister-in-law Annette Calhoun as well as many nieces and nephews.
A private service will be held at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Calhoun, Louisiana at a later date. Family members will be notified upon final arrangements.
