Born January 6, 1928 in Sallisaw, Carlene was the daughter of Nolan and Bertha (Rice) Davenport. Times were tough during the Depression. Circumstances led Carlene and her two brothers to live with their Uncle Walter on a farm near Little Kansas and Twin Oaks.
Carlene moved to Tulsa as a teenager where she lived in a boarding house. A hard worker all of her life, she got her first job in a cafe downtown. Carlene never smoked or drank however, she loved to dance. She became a regular at Cain's Ballroom where she mastered the Jitterbug.
Floyd Franklin Brown was the love of Carlene's life. She knew him for many years before her children indirectly suggested that they become an item. They were married September 21, 1972 and Frank passed away three years later. According to Carlene, those were the best three years of her life. She will be interred next to Frank in the Bixby Cemetery.
While raising her children, Carlene worked at Johnson's Cookie Company on Apache. They loved when she worked there because she regularly brought home their favorite lemon cookies. She spent most of her working life running the office at her brother's store, D & O Carpet. When her brother passed away, she worked at Marvel Photo until her retirement.
Carlene loved her home where she resided since 1957. She loved her family most of all. Carlene raised her children in the Jenks Bethel Baptist Church where they were dedicated members for many years. Carlene will not be forgotten by her children, grandchildren, and an extended family that will continue to cherish her memory.
