On April 7, 1951, in Heavener, Oklahoma, Malvern Emitt Hamer, Jr. or “Bud”, as he was affectionately known, was born to Malvern, Sr. and Elizabeth (Brewer) Hamer. Bud would later welcome a brother, Ken. With their father serving in the military, the Hamer family lived all over. They spent time in Oklahoma, Texas, Michigan, Wyoming, and Massachusetts in the United States. They also lived abroad in England and Japan. It was in Yamato, Japan that Bud became a high school graduate.

Following high school, Bud would attend a college in Japan and then Lake Superior State College in Michigan. Relocating again, he found himself in Tulsa where, among a few part-time jobs, he began dispatch work for the Tulsa Police Department. This would only be the beginning of what spanned a 30-year career with the department. This, like Bud, became an officer with TPD. Through the years, he would have multiple assigned duties, within the department, and certainly enjoyed the comradery he experienced with his co-workers. Bud retired from this endeavor in 1999.

In retirement, Bud found a few jobs to help pass the time. He served as a security officer for the Tulsa Federal Courthouse for around 13 years, July 2005 to July 2018. When he was not on duty, Bud could usually be found playing soccer. He played this cherished game until he simply could not do it anymore. He also coached the game, which is how he met his beloved wife, Teressa. She claims his stint as a coach was only to meet women. It certainly worked! The two married on August 1, 1989, and have enjoyed a beautiful 31 years of marriage.

In addition to soccer, Bud was an OU fanatic. He also played the guitar, rode motorcycles, enjoyed running, and maybe more importantly – loved to eat! It was quantity over quality when it came to food for Bud. In fact, the bigger the buffet the better!

It seems that Bud had little time to devote to much else. However, he made time to rescue animals as he certainly loved his cats and dogs.

Words that help to describe Bud include goofy, silly, laid back, patient, and methodical. He was easy to be around and his “Happy-Go-Lucky” attitude earned him many friends and was loved by many.

Bud passed from this life on Thursday, October 1, 2020, in Tulsa. He was 69.

He is survived by his wife, Teressa Hamer; mother, Betty Hamer; brother, Ken Hamer, and wife, Pam; brother-in-law, Mark Lorenzen, and wife, Dennice; sister-in-law, Jan Shelton, and husband, Jerry; nieces and nephew: Jenna Hamer, Lauren Daughety and husband, Chavis, Jeremy Shelton and Shelly Lee and husband, Mike.
