A graveside service to honor and remember the life of Betty Perryman will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 10, 2022 at Haskell Cemetery. Family will receive friends for visitation on Monday evening from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Bixby Funeral Service. Betty passed from this life on Thursday, May 5, 2022 in Claremore. She was 93.
Born July 13, 1928, in Bartlesville, Oklahoma, Betty was the eldest of three children and would welcome two younger brothers, Eddie and Dave. Betty was the daughter of Silas Clopp and Mabel Lou (Bradshaw). She would grow up in both the Bartlesville and Tulsa communities. Betty would attend and graduate from Central High School in Tulsa. It was during her youth, that she began playing the violin and became quite accomplished. In fact, she was not far away from being able to join the Tulsa Philharmonic Orchestra and was working toward that end.
On December 27, 1949, Betty married Claude Perryman in Van Buren, Arkansas. The two had, sometime earlier, been introduced at a party and were certainly grateful for that introduction. They would eventually settle in the Bixby area and begin a family of their own. Betty stayed quite busy serving as a homemaker. It was in those days that frequent trips would need be made to the laundry mat. The laundry mat, too, must have been one of the places Betty received the local news, as it was quite sometime before they even had telephone service installed in their home. Betty was known to be a wonderful cook too and, for several years, “Betty’s 24-hour Kitchen” was always open and ready to serve.
Put together is a way to describe Betty. She was always sure to have her hair fixed, nails painted, make-up on and outfit just right. It didn’t matter if she was going fishing with the boys, for a walk in the neighborhood with the girls, or headed to town – she looked just the same!
Betty, too, was a woman of faith and was active in local churches through the years. She was over the children’s Sunday School departments at both Haskell First Baptist Church and Bixby First Baptist Church. She also sang in the church choirs and participated in the special musical events, such as cantatas.
Living a healthy lifestyle became important to Betty. She would walk at least three miles daily and ate well-balanced and nutritious meals. To be encouraged and to encourage others, Betty joined the local Take Off Pounds Sensibly (TOPS) organization where she even served as President. She was proud of her accomplishment, in this endeavor, and it certainly only helped her be able to pull off her fashionable look!
The last few years have been difficult on Betty and her family. Today, there is both sadness and gratitude. There is great comfort taken in knowing that she is now Home with her Savior and with those family members who have gone on before.
