Barbara Ann Stephens passed away Friday, August 4, 2023 at Hillcrest Medical Center in Tulsa. The family will celebrate her life with a private graveside ceremony in the Bixby Cemetery. She was 81.
Born March 16, 1941 in Greenwood, South Carolina, Barbara was the daughter and only child of William and Maggie (Hamerick) Witt. She grew up in Greenwood with the most loving parents a child could ask for. Barbara graduated from Greenwood High School with the Class of 1958.
Barbara married Willard Donald Stephens August 1, 1959 in Atlanta, Georgia. Don's enlistment in the U.S. Navy relocated the young couple to San Diego, California. From this union were born six children. Barbara was a wonderful homemaker to her family. Don's career with Phillip Morris moved them to Atlanta, Memphis, Longview, Texas, Broken Arrow, and ultimately, Houston where he retired. In retirement, Barbara and Don moved to Mounds, Oklahoma, where they enjoyed their home on 20 acres. Don passed away in 2008, following 49 years of marriage to Barbara.
Barbara's grandchildren meant the world to her. She really enjoyed taking them to Branson, Missouri. Many great memories were made at her home in Mounds, taking the grandchildren around the property on her golf cart. They would take to the trails - hunting for bears, rabbits, and all types of critters. She also enjoyed cooking for everyone. Family time was always so important to Barbara.
Surviving family include her five sons, Willard D. Stephens, Jr. of Mounds, Jeb Stephens and wife, Valeria of Jenks, Sean and wife, Catherine of Nashville, Tennessee, Tyler Stephens of Tulsa, Charles Stephens of Tulsa; and her daughter, Merise Roberts and husband, Allen of Jenks; her beloved grandchildren Heather, Hillary, Trevor, Dalton, Kaylee, Kelsey, Madison, Travis, Skylar and Montgomery; and great grandchildren, Preslyn, Bradford, and Charlotte.
