Born April 6, 1924, in Indianola, Oklahoma, Audrey was the daughter of Thomas and Lena Jane (Jackson) Whitfield. Audrey's early life would be spent in Jasper, Arkansas before making a big move to the Bay Area of California where she lived for nearly 25 years. While in California, Audrey would become a mother to her children: son, Ron and daughter, Brenda. She would work as an Inspector for Marchant Calculating Machine Company and balance being a full-time, single mother.
A move back to Oklahoma, in the early sixties, would have Audrey calling Eufaula home. In 1965, she would marry the love of her life, Bobby Ray Cartwright. The two established their home in Leonard, Oklahoma on a beautiful, 30-acre, parcel of Pecan trees.
It is both fair and safe to say that Audrey was accomplished at many things. She was a wonderful cook, seamstress, and gardener. She was extremely physically active - from hand-picking pecans to working out daily to playing any sport where she could find competition. She was self-taught in almost all of her endeavors.
Audrey would say that, "The most important things in life are family and friends." She would also say, "In order to have good friends, you must be a good friend." A good friend, indeed, was Audrey Cartwright. Also, simply the best mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and "Sis" to so many. She was the nucleus that everyone gravitated towards.
Loving, caring, devoted, and godly are words that help to describe Audrey. She was also known to be, "The Boss!". Through the years, Audrey found enjoyment with her church family at Bixby First Methodist Church. She also enjoyed belonging to the Bixby Garden Club, Red Hat Society, and volunteered for the Children's Hospital for many years.
Audrey made an undeniable impact on those that knew her. Her presence will certainly be missed.
