April 12, 1981 ~ March 2, 2020 (age 38)

Obituary

Services celebrating the life of April Dawn Grundei will be held 12 PM Noon Saturday, March 5, 2020 at the RiverCrest Chapel and Event Center in Bixby with a catered reception to follow. April passed away Monday, March 2, 2020 at her home in Broken Arrow. She was 38.

April was born April 12, 1981 in Lubbock, Texas, the daughter of Gene Graves and Barbara (Rittiman) Scott. April was raised in Odessa, Texas where she was very athletic in school. She participated in gymnastics and cheerleading at Permian High School. Following high school, April moved to Tulsa and began working for Dr. Brown’s chiropractic practice. It was there April was inspired to pursue a career in nursing.

As a working single mother, April worked hard to earn her LPN certification. She was employed by both Saint Francis Health System and Hillcrest Medical Center. Having asthma herself, April was passionate about helping patients with breathing problems. She was very instrumental in opening the COPD clinic while employed by Hillcrest.

To say April lived life to the fullest would be an understatement. She lived life to the fullest….and then some! April loved fast cars and was known to frighten whoever was in her passenger’s seat. It was also not uncommon to find April riding on fast motorcycles in her stiletto high heels. She was absolutely a clean freak! Her house was always spotless where you could usually smell a hint of bleach in the air. Many great memories were made drinking “Sunset Blush” and eating barbeque with her family and friends.

April’s daughter, Sky, meant the world to her. She was always involved in all of her activities, particularly “The Intimidators” softball team. April and Sky enjoyed several trips to Six Flags and the Schlitterbahn Waterpark together. April Dawn Grundei will not soon be forgotten by many people who loved her.

Surviving family members include her daughter, Skylir Turnage; her mother, Barbara Scott and stepfather, Charles Scott; her sisters: Angel Bruton and her husband, Seth, and Ashley Nauss and her husband, William; and her nieces: Alexus, Ashlynn, Aspen, Autumn, and Addison. April was preceded in death by her father, Gene Graves.
