Alice passed away April 15, 2021 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. She was 97. A private family graveside will be 1:00 pm Wednesday, April 21, 2021 in the Blackwell Cemetery in Blackwell, OK.
Alice Marie Voros was born January 21, 1924 in Barry County, Missouri to Ancel L. Sapp and Lucille (Anderson) Sapp. The family lived on a farm where Ancel was a farmer. Several years later, the Sapp family moved to Blackwell where Ancel was employed at the Blackwell Zinc Smelter.
Alice attended and graduated from Blackwell High School. Upon graduation, she moved to Oklahoma City to attend Business School. She was trained as an executive secretary and sought employment in the banking business.
She met Joseph “Pete” Voros, who was a Naval Aviator stationed at the Navy Air Base in Norman, OK. The couple married on January 15, 1944. Their son, Joseph Voros, Jr was born 9 mos later in October. Their newlywed years were not a walk in the park for Alice and Pete. Pete was discharged from active duty in 1945 and returned to Purdue University in Indiana to finish his education there. Alice was not working at that time but finding a place to live with a baby was extremely difficult. They found an owner of a male only boarding house who took a liking to the young couple and was willing to rent them a room. Here they lived while Pete finished his degree.
Pete graduated in 1947 with a degree in mechanical engineering. The Voros family moved to Blackwell to be near her parents. They moved to Wichita, Kansas in 1950 where Pete was employed with Boeing Aviation. Pete designed the ejection seat system for B47 and used on the B52. In 1952 they moved to Overland Park, KS where Alice began working in banks, eventually finding employment with Commerce Bank, where she rose to the position of Assistant Trust Officer. She was the first woman to become a Trust Officer at the bank. During this time Pete worked at Bendix Corporation on Atomic Energy Commission. Alice worked at Commerce Bank more than 15 years before moving to Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Pete eventually retired from Ethyl Corp in 1984. Upon retirement, Alice and Pete made their home in Tulsa to be closer to her family and friends.
In Tulsa, Alice was able to explore her love of art. She loved to paint and was extremely talented and began tole painting and some oil painting. She loved playing bridge and eventually joined South Tulsa Baptist Church.
