On March 14, 1954, Tommie "Boyd" Long, along with his twin brother, Loyd, were born to parents James Eugene and Ivalene (McClary) Long. The boys were also welcomed by two big sisters: Judy and Joyce. The Long family would call the Stone Bluff community home where the kids learned the value of hard work and country living. Boyd would talk about those early days where he did his fair share of picking vegetables and bailing hay.
After his graduation from Haskell, Boyd would begin employment with the John Zink Company where he began to learn his trade as a machinist. Boyd would excel in his mastery of this skill. Through the years, he did his part to help create heat exchangers for the oil and gas industry. He was currently employed by Energy Exchanger of Tulsa where he enjoyed interacting with his co-workers and friends.
Love would find Boyd when he met LaJuan. The two met in 1974. They married October 4, 1975. They would welcome three children: Jeremy, Randall and Ashley.
In his spare time, Boyd enjoyed deer, turkey and coon hunting, fishing, and camping - especially trips to Beavers Bend. More than anything, he loved spending time with his family and spoiling his dogs. There wasn't anything better than wearing the nametag, "Grandpa/Papa" as Boyd welcomed his grandchildren: Colton, Delaney, Cambrey, Wiley, and Maverick.
A man who has been consistently described and respected as hard working and loving. He enjoyed his career and took the time to mentor others and valued the ownership in completing tasks. His family will miss his excitement for the outdoors and all the stories told of a lifetime of hunting and camping experiences with friends and family.
He is survived by: his loving wife, LaJuan of the home; children: son, Jeremy Long and wife, Katrina; son, Randall Long and wife, Jacklynn and daughter, Ashley Gibson and husband, David; his five grandchildren; sister, Joyce Carmichael and husband, Don and brother Loyd Long and wife, Janet; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by: his parents and sister, Judy Owens Carroll.
A Memorial Service to celebrate the life of Boyd Long will be 4:00 p.m. Friday, July 12, 2019 at RiverCrest Chapel in Bixby, Oklahoma.
